Jack starts his first day as a reporter but struggles with menial assignments while missing Jennifer in New York. He discovers fake cops robbing Salem businesses and pursues them to the Brady Fish Market, where gunshots erupt. Carrie and Marlena discuss independence and leaving home. Marlena shares her own youthful desire to escape, admitting some regret. Jesse initially refuses graduation but eventually attends after Carrie encourages him. Carrie offers Jesse a job at Ballistics and asks him to be her roommate, he agrees. Molly acts strangely secretive about leaving with a professor and his wife. Tanner, Julie, and others grow concerned about her evasiveness. Julie suggests Tanner and Molly reunite, though he's hesitant. Jo cares for Jack, recognizing his loneliness and helping him adjust. Vern and Jo share obvious chemistry. Jack grows frustrated with trivial assignments and determines to pursue the fake cops story instead, leading him into danger.
