Instead, in a moment of extreme courage, he stood up and ran zigzagging towards the German bunker with his gun blazing, slapping in a new magazine as he reached the enemy and silenced the threat, he then moved on to the second bun-ker taking 25 Germans prisoner. Sergeant Stanley Hollis continued to storm into action throughout the day. For displaying the utmost gallantry, he was the only man to be awarded the Victoria Cross on D-Day, an incredible feat.
