Caliph Abu Jaafar discovers that his minister Abu Ayyub has deceived him after stealing money from the state treasury, so he punishes him, and sends his crown prince, Muhammad al-Mahdi, to Tabaristan to fight its soldiers and annex it to the Abbasid state.
