The Mirabal sisters, Patria, Minerva and Maria-Teresa, are heroines and martyrs of the struggle against the dictatorship of Rafael Trujillo who ruled the Dominican Republic from 1930 to 1960. “Las Mariposas” is the code name within their group of opponents of the Regime.
