The first of three docu-dramas following in the footsteps of history's great explorers, telling the story of Meriwether Lewis and William Clarke, the first white men to cross America. In search of a trade route, the two Army officers embarked on an expedition fraught with danger. It took them almost three years to complete the 8,000 mile journey, during which time they frequently came up against the hostile forces of nature.
