While the corpse of a young man was found on the quays, Caesar accompanied his mother to the opening of an exhibition by design star Peter Breck. There, he discovers with amazement that Élise Beaumont is the designer's wife. A young woman dies during the evening. Apparently, she fell down the escalator. Following a visit from the sister of the first victim, Wagner understands that the two deaths are linked. Together with his team, he tries to understand what brings the two crimes together, apart from the world of design and decorative arts.

César assiste au mariage de sa mère avec Christian Haas dans un château magnifique où tout le gratin de la politique Strasbourgeoise a été invité. Mais en coulisse, c'est moins glamour: le corps d'un homme non identifié est retrouvé dans la chambre froide. César fait une faveur à sa mère en acceptant de ne pas annuler la fête qui suit son cours et se retrouve à enquêter avec son équipe au château. Leur enquête les dirige rapidement vers la fille de Christian Haas, Victoire, qui est également organisatrice du mariage via sa société "la fête des sens". La victime était un maître chanteur venu au château pour lui extorquer de l'argent. Quel était ce chantage ? Pourquoi Christian Haas semble-t-il lui aussi impliqué, ainsi que l'associée de sa fille ? César est sous pression, lui qui doit en plus faire un discours qu'il n'a pas encore écrit... Il pourra compter sur l'aide d'Élise et d'Arthur, très motivés à "mettre le feu" à ce mariage...

Sarah, une jeune femme issue de la communauté juive orthodoxe de Strasbourg, est retrouvée morte. César et son équipe vont découvrir un monde dont ils ne maîtrisent pas toujours bien les codes, guidés dans leur enquête par quelques figures de la communauté, dont le grand rabbin de Strasbourg. Leurs recherches les mettent sur la piste du frère de la victime, David, un personnage aux activités troubles qui semblent cacher des choses à la police. Ils découvriront également qu'un autre homme, Ari, était récemment revenu à Strasbourg pour convaincre Sarah de s'enfuir avec lui. César devra dénouer le vrai du faux dans cet épisode qui se terminera dans une lueur d'espoir, et aura également l'occasion de se confronter à quelques questions fondamentales sur la vie et la mort.
