「なくなってます、3000万……」。心優しきゲイのおじさん波多野玄一（及川光博）と、恋人の中学教師・作田索（手越祐也）。ずっと一緒に暮らせる理想の家探しを始めた２人は、アパートでの“お試し同居生活”も順調で、目標に向かって少しずつ前進……と思っていたら、玄一と中学３年生・楠ほたる（白鳥玉季）の“親子のフリ”が警察にバレてしまった上に、ほたるから預かっていた3000万円入りのスーツケースを、ほたるのロクデナシな父・仁（光石研）に盗まれてしまって大慌て！
そんな中、玄一とほたるの関係を上に報告しようとする警察の松（土居志央梨）は、スーツケースを持って逃げる仁にバッタリ遭遇。怪しい動きを見せる仁に職務質問しているうちに、ほたるの本当のお父さんだということに気が付いて…。
仁を連れてアパートにやって来た松に、ほたるは「お父さんじゃないです、こんな人」と知らん顔するものの、もし本当のお父さんがいるなら玄一との“親子のフリ”は不問に付すと言われ、慌てて前言撤回、「よく見ると、お父さんでした」。警察に捕まりたくない仁も、「今後はお父さんとして、ちゃんとほたるの面倒見ます」と調子を合わせ…。

「卒業したら、ひとりで長野県に行きます」――。心優しきゲイのおじさん波多野玄一（及川光博）と恋人の中学教師・作田索（手越祐也）に、トーヨコ中学生・楠ほたる（白鳥玉季）との別れの時がやってくる！？
ギター作りの職人になりたいというほたるに付き添って、長野県のギター工房を見学する玄一と索。工房の主人・岸部康夫（井上肇）と孫の和樹（柊木陽太）に案内されながら、職人たちの作業をキラキラした目で見るほたるの姿に、玄一も索も胸がいっぱい。ほたるに目標が見つかったことが、なんだか自分のことのようにうれしくて…。とはいえ、すぐにギターを作らせてもらえるわけもなく、下積みを経て、まともにギターを作れるようになるには10年以上かかるという。それでも「働きたいです」と希望に胸を膨らませるほたるを、康夫も快く受け入れ、働きながら高校の定時制に通うことを許可。東京に戻ったほたるは受験のために猛勉強を始める…。
一方、旅を終えて自首する決意を固めたほたるの母・ともえ（麻生久美子）のもとに、警察の松（土居志央梨）がやってくる。横領の経緯と、盗んだお金に１円も手を付けていないことを確認した松は、ともえが不当に扱われることのないように、担当刑事にきちんと説明してくれるという。ホッと胸をなで下ろすアパートの大家・井の頭（坂井真紀）は、ともえの旅の話を聞いているうちに、自分も遠くへ行ってみたいと、心がウズウズしてきて…。
