The best (and quickest) way to change our lives, is to change our attitudes. As the author of - all our psychology - I think Jesus knew this, which is what makes these so important. The beatitudes describe the singular spiritual attitude, or inner disposition, to be found in every Christian... which also so happens to be, the very same inner attitude and disposition of God.
