As a "volunteer" pvt Dolas is conscripted into the French Foreign Legion somewhere in Africa. By a strange twist of fate he becomes the cook of a military camp in the middle of a desert. It appears that even there his wits will become handy. Especially that the French will soon switch sides, and the British and Italian armies are about to clash nearby.
