In the vicinity of the Blutritt with over 3000 horses, Marlene Stöhr is shot by a crossbow. Marlene survived the attack, but is put into an artificial coma. Marlene's son Oliver returned to Lake Constance a few days ago. He had tried to evade the accusations of his family, who blame him for the death of his godmother a year ago. His godmother had died in a fire at the stud farm together with a valuable breeding stallion, whom Marlene believed to have seen alive shortly before her death. Oberländer and Zeiler gradually get to the bottom of the mystery of the allegedly burnt horse, Oliver's humble origins and the conditions in the rich stud world in which his mother Marlene worked for his godmother. When Marlene dies in a second attack, Oliver is desperately looking for a culprit.
