In the olden days, Japan-made silk was known for its quality, trading with other countries at very high prices. But the number of silkworm breeders has decreased from its peak in 1929 at 2,210,000, to 368 nationwide. Currently, domestic-made silk makes up less than 1% of the silk in the country. That's where Kimono producer Komei Motoji comes in.
