Perhaps because it was the last awards ceremony of the 20th century, some singers hailed as the greatest of the century, including Cho Yong-pil, made appearances. The Grand Prize was awarded to Jo Sung-mo. While the MC had traditionally announced this award, Cho Yong-pil made the announcement that year.
