Celeste Rodrigues, about to turn 95, accepted Sílvia Alberto's invitation to a conversation at Mesa de Frades in Alfama - "all the fado houses are my homes." That's where we find her singing every week; it's through fado that she feeds her soul and finds the energy to face anything. With over seven decades of activity and an incredible memory, Celeste assures me she wouldn't mind living it all over again. She misses her brothers, her parents, and her mother's voice, which she considered the best in the world - "She loved to sing for us, at home. Like us, I never thought of being an artist, nor did my sister."
