They pose with their big trophies on Instagram and YouTube. Fishing has become really popular again, especially through social media. But what happens to the fish after it is caught is obviously ignored. In the fishing scene, the fish is often put back into the water after the photo is taken - this is called catch and release. And that is forbidden according to the German animal protection law. Actually, it is only allowed to catch fish for “reasonable reasons”. E.g. for consumption. But posing on YouTube with a fat carp is not a reasonable excuse. Nevertheless, it seems to be a common practice. Catch and Release: Why do anglers do it? Does that hurt the fish?
