Adidas, Puma, Boss & Co: Cotton from forced labor in China? (2022x17)

Udgivelsesdato: Maj 05, 2022

There has been a suspicion for a long time: cotton in top fashion brands is said to have been harvested or processed using forced labor. Namely in the remote province of Xinjiang in western China. There, minorities such as the Uighurs are apparently being systematically oppressed and persecuted by the central government. Many end up in camps or prisons and are apparently forced into forced labor there - including in cotton fields. What does this have to do with us? 20% of the world's cotton comes from Xinjiang. It has a particularly high quality when picked by hand. So she must be in a lot of clothes. Many textile companies have apparently recognized that the risk of forced labor is great: Hugo Boss, Adidas and Puma declared that they would not use any cotton from Xinjiang in their products. However, tracking this has so far been very difficult. Independent journalistic work is not possible in Xinjiang.
