Not a “real refugee”? Who is welcome and who is not (2022x14)

The Russian invasion of Ukraine is forcing millions of people to flee. The willingness of people at the borders to help is huge and politicians across Europe are also reacting: the EU is activating the mass influx directive for the first time. Through it, refugees from Ukraine now receive residence permits and work permits in an unbureaucratic manner, without first having to go through a lengthy asylum process - an EU-wide agreement on migration policy that was not achieved in 2015, when many refugees came from Syria. Some now refer to Ukrainians as “real refugees” – a distinction that greatly concerns STRG_F reporter Sulaiman Tadmory, who himself fled the war in Syria in 2015. Are there second-class refugees in Germany?
