What actually happens to sneakers when you throw them into used clothing containers or donate them to aid organizations? To answer this question, we travel behind old celebrity sneakers that we equipped with GPS trackers. In the second episode of the sneaker hunt, reporters Christian Salewski and Felix Rohrbeck follow the tracked shoes along winding paths to Eastern Europe and even to the equator. Kenya is one of the main buyers of used clothing. The trade is competitive, and fires are regularly set on East Africa's largest second-hand market in Nairobi. The garbage dumps are overflowing, partly because of millions of old shoes and clothing. What responsibility do used clothing collectors and manufacturers have for this?
