A sea captain gives a man a magic monkey's paw with the warning that even though one can get three wishes fulfilled with it, much pain will result. And, after the man and his family suffer greatly, they discover that the captain was right. But fortunately, it was all a dream the old man had, and when he wakes up he throws the paw into the fire.
