Tom Bosworth and his wife Lynda are on a four-wheel drive adventure on a network of old mining roads in the New Mexico high desert. When their Jeep hits a boulder and rolls over, they find themselves stranded in the rugged Burro Mountains. Next, "Dewey" Gaedcke goes on a night hike to check out the lava fields at Hawaii's Mt. Kilauea volcano. He gets lost on his way back to his car. For the next five days, Dewey wanders through the lava fields, which leaves his feet bleeding and infected.
