After graduating from Dartmouth College, Ed worked as a newspaper copywriter and then an advertising creative writer in New York City. Ed went on to write for Time Magazine and Sports Illustrated. As his career flourished Ed moved to Los Angeles and enjoyed continued success as a: writer, executive director, executive producer, cartoonist, and humorist. He became involved in radio and television and worked closely with many entertainment stars including: Jonathan Winters, Sheldon Leonard, and Carl Reiner. Ed enjoyed perhaps his greatest success in television when he created, the Linus the Lionhearted cartoon show aired by CBS and ABC between1964 – 1969.
