On Mother’s Day, Marlena learns the baby was conceived in early February, leaving paternity uncertain. She lies to John, claiming conception was around New Year’s so he can’t be the father. Devastated, John leaves and later says goodbye at the pier, tearing up her photo. Sami comforts Marlena in a quiet, tender moment. A social worker threatens to take Wendy’s baby from Austin and Jonah, but Wendy arrives just in time to claim her child. Jack and Jennifer prepare for a romantic evening, only to learn Clayton Robards—the Spectator’s owner—has died. Victor immediately moves to buy the paper once his option expires. Kate calls her New York investor, who faxes Jack. Realizing his dream of owning the Spectator is slipping away, Jack is crushed as Jennifer tries to console him.
