Carly's condition deteriorates; she has a dangerous embolism. Surgery risks her life, but without it, her vital organs could fail. Meanwhile, Jack and Hawk execute a stock fraud scheme with broker Paul Wedder in New York, with Jack liquidating all his assets and collateral for the newspaper. At the airport, Jack and Jennifer share an emotional goodbye; she senses something is wrong and he finally reciprocates her declaration of love. After he leaves, Jack feeds his stocks to Wedder until FBI agents burst in and arrest Jack, Hawk, and the broker. Back in Salem, Ginger discovers Hawk has been sabotaging her newspaper ads and grows cold toward Brian. Bo and Brian discover the elevator cable has been sabotaged. Jennifer writes in her diary, missing Jack, unaware of his arrest.
