Tanner faces accusations of stealing money from Julie's safe at Wings. When Julie finds a safe combination in his jacket, she calls Brian to investigate. Tanner denies the theft but refuses to explain why he's been trying to borrow money for an unknown woman, leaving Molly hurt and suspicious. Meanwhile, Hawk orchestrates an elaborate con targeting Jack, working with broker Denise to set a trap. Jack, interested in stocks, is manipulated into pursuing a suspicious investment lead with "Paul Wetter." Hawk plants misinformation and even steals Ginger's personal ad from the office. Jennifer struggles with Carly's hospitalization and grows closer to Jack, who asks her to trust him with his business dealings. However, Jennifer harbors conflicting feelings, confiding her attraction to Hawk in her diary ”which Hawk secretly reads when she's away, deepening his manipulation of the situation.
