Kayla recovers in the hospital after the lab explosion, but Steve dodges any discussion of his love confession, frustrating her. Jack sees their argument and comforts Kayla, who admits she can’t let go of Steve despite his distance. Diana, shaken by the blast, tells Mike her late fiancé James met Senator Harper before his death and suspects murder. Harper claims James only wanted research funding and offers nothing more. The FBI pressures Steve to fake an assassination attempt on Harper to expose a group targeting doctors. They warn Steve and Kayla are now in danger. Wanting to protect her, Steve agrees — unaware “Harper” is actually an undercover operative manipulating him. Meanwhile, Maggie faints, and Robin discovers she’s severely malnourished due to swallowing issues, requiring hospitalization as the family searches for answers.
