Steve checks Kayla’s wound and tries to give her a gun, but she refuses. Britta needles Kayla under the guise of visiting Hope, then plants a hidden camera in the loft. Later, Steve confronts Britta on the pier, discovers she photographed his tattoo, and furiously tells her he’ll kill her if she’s using him—unaware Kayla overhears. Roman receives a call: Marlena will be returned only if he finds the treasury bonds. He and Shane search Britta’s hotel room, but she’s gone; Lars says she acted strangely after a call from Steve. At Roman’s house, a new note warns time is running out. Kim and Neil discuss their strained relationships, while Liz’s sudden trip to Hawaii leaves Neil uneasy. Kayla arrives shaken. Roman, frantic and unable to remember Stockholm, races out to find Britta and Patch. On the pier, Britta cries alone before a gunman approaches; she pleads for her life, but he shoots her.
