At the ballet auditions, Maggie is thrilled but Lars is harsh—especially toward Melissa, who leaves upset. On the river, John and Marlena hit brutal rapids; their raft flips and Marlena is knocked unconscious. John drags her out and revives her. At the hospital, Victor tells Britta he’ll send her out of the country once she’s stable; she begs to stay. Later Steve brings her a key to the apartment he’s rented for them and Lars, and she breaks down with relief. Pete tells Victor Melissa didn’t make the company; Alex warns Lars the company won’t exist unless Melissa is placed at the top. Downriver, Bo and Shane’s raft capsizes too; they find each other but not Hope, and search frantically. Marlena, injured and barely able to walk, urges John to leave her, but he carries her into cover. She deliriously calls for Roman—then John returns, admitting he couldn’t leave her behind.
