Arsenal were looking for revenge on West Brom, who upset the Gunners 3-2 at the Emirates earlier this season. Tottenham met fellow London side West Ham, while there was also a West Midlands derby between Aston Villa and Wolves, while Blackburn and Blackpool were involved in an all-Lancashire battle at Ewood Park.
