With the aim of getting rid of unfortunate hints linked to her past, Rita Melanson visits her native village. Having not set foot there for twenty-three years, she is surprised to discover a village in decline. She reconnects with a few villagers, including her childhood friend, Yolande. Following a series of events, involving her ex, the acting mayor of Saint-Prospère, Rita finds herself, against her will, owner of the church, the presbytery and the surrounding land.
