Four new cooks must wow judges John Torode and Donal Skehan, to win just one semi-final place. Their first test is to create their ultimate pasta dish from a selection of mystery ingredients, in just 50 minutes. The contestants are given three trays of different ingredients to choose from. One for the pasta, one to make the sauce and one for the meat and fish. First, John and Donal go head to head to show viewers at home their version of the perfect pasta. Then it's the turn of the young gastronomes - will the contestants be able to show creativity, imagination and flair? Then the four cooks have one hour to make their own two favourite dishes in an attempt to impress and fight for that all-important semi-final place. With spicy sweet potato soup, spaghetti puttanesca and cookies and cream on the menu, the judges face a deliciously tight contest.
